Serving those who serve us since 1993

The picture at left comes from a brochure for the Silver Star Foundation, which provided educational scholarships to survivors beginning in the 1970s. In 1993, when the Silver Star Foundation and Virginia Police Foundation merged to form VPSF, the new organization adopted the same mission as its predecessors. Since then, we have grown and expanded from a police organization based in Richmond to a statewide organization focused on serving all branches of public safety.

We're proud of our long history and dedicated to growing and changing in ways that further our mission of support for public safety officers and their families.

In the 20 years since our founding, VPSF has helped more than 100 first responders and their families.

In 2014, VPSF dedicated the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial and gave it to the Commonwealth of Virginia in honor of 870 public safety officers honored there. Many of the families whose loved ones are honored by the memorial, we've come to know over the years. The memorial's completion was the culmination of a long four-year capital campaign but also of a larger mission, spearheaded for many decades by VPSF and its predecessors, to ensure that no Virginia hero is forgotten to history.
