RICHMOND - Governor Robert F. McDonnell, in partnership with Virginia Public Safety Foundation (VPSF), announced the initial roster of public safety heroes to be honored with their engraved name at the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial slated for construction at Capitol Square in Richmond in 2013. The roster of 765 men and women who died in service to their communities as public safety officers is the result of two years of research work completed by VPSF, the 501(c)(3) organization serving as memorial administrator.

Richmond - Governor McDonnell announced today a leadership contribution of $100,000 to the Virginia Public Safety Foundation (VPSF) from Motorola Solutions Foundation benefiting construction of the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial, Virginia's monument to public safety heroes who have died in the line of duty and the 165,000 public safety officers serving Virginians every day.

"Motorola Solutions Foundation has again demonstrated its strong commitment to Virginia's public safety community and safety education," said McDonnell. "This contribution-the largest from any person or organization to the Memorial Fund-should signal to other Virginia businesses the value of this worthy cause."

Sue Garbarino, widow of Fairfax Police Officer Mike Garbarino, writes, "One organization that came to our aid was Virginia Public Safety Foundation (VPSF), which provides financial assistance to survivors at the time of death, no strings attached. It can take several months for state and federal benefits to be processed, but VPSF bridges the divide. Five years after Mike's death, VPSF is still standing with my family, contributing to my daughter's college expenses. Today, they serve as official administrators of the Memorial Fund on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia, raising money, developing the design and contracting for construction of this monument to heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice."
